My special interest within the realm of Ophthalmology is that of KERATOPLASTY or CORNEAL TRANSPLANTS, which I’ve been performing for over 35 years.  Recently the field of corneal transplantation has been revolutionized by new techniques that allow us to carefully tailor the procedure recommended for different conditions.

I am trained, and often perform, full-thickness corneal transplants (known as PENETRATING KERATOPLASTY) for conditions such as Keratoconus and Corneal Scarring.

If the anatomy of the eye allows it, I will do partial-thickness transplants, such as DSAEKs and DMEKs.  These procedures are done in cases where the inner-lining cells of the cornea (the endothelium) is missing or diseased, such as Fuchs corneal dystrophy.

If all else fails, I can implant a plastic or manufactured cornea - a KERATOPROSTHESIS.  These are truly last-resort, as their after-care is complex.  A live cornea is always superior to a manufactured one.
